CANCER:-
Carcinoma is a type of cancer that originates in the epithelial cells, which are the cells that cover or line the body's internal and external surfaces. Some common symptoms of carcinoma include:
A lump or growth on the skin or mucous membrane
Persistent cough, hoarseness or difficulty in swallowing
Unusual bleeding or discharge
Changes in bowel or bladder habits
Changes in the size and color of moles or birthmarks
Unexplained weight loss or loss of appetite
Pain that does not go away
Tests to detect carcinoma may include:
Biopsy: a tissue sample is removed and examined under a microscope
Imaging tests: such as CT scans, X-rays, MRI scans or PET scans, to locate the tumor and determine the extent of the cancer
Blood tests: to detect the presence of certain antibodies or tumor markers
Endoscopy: a thin, flexible tube with a camera at the end is inserted into the body to examine the inside of organs, such as the lungs, bladder or stomach
The main difference between cancer and carcinoma is that cancer is a general term that refers to any type of abnormal cell growth or proliferation, while carcinoma is a specific type of cancer that originates in the epithelial cells. Other types of cancer include sarcoma, leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma.
