Serological tests, such as ELISAs may confirm the presence of IgM and IgG anti-chikungunya antibodies. The virus may also be directly detected in the blood during the first few days of infection by both serological and virological methods (particularly reverse transcriptase–polymerase chain reaction (RT–PCR)).
